Advertising, Purchasing, Membership and Safety Reports – Autumn 2018

My role in advertising is much more challenging than I had hoped.

Many businesses are doing it tough at the moment and looking for ways to reduce their costs, the easiest way for them is to reduce their advertising budget.

You can help of course by ensuring that whenever possible you give our advertisers the chance to supply your needs, let them know that you heard about them in our magazine and be aware that we can all help to source new advertisers.

I have been scouring all of the popular motorcycle and RV magazines for new advertisers and feel that we may get some on board soon.

In the Purchasing portfolio, we have been looking for a better deal for our entire club merchandising. As we have been using the same supplier for many years I thought it was an opportune time to test the market, to investigate if we can get an improved deal from our existing or from a new supplier. This will be based on overall costs to us, minimum supply quantities, lead times from order placement to delivery, and improved communication of any issues that arise from time to time.

At the time of writing this report most of our outstanding orders have been filled with just two still outstanding. We will however need a restock soon and this can sometimes be dictated by the minimum quantities required, as not all sizes run out at the same time. The ladies in our National Administration Office do a truly magnificent job under sometimes difficult situations, so please be patient with them as they go out of their way on many occasions for you as our valued members.

I have recently been asked to undertake the Membership and Community Engagement role, which is a new area of responsibility for me. I am very excited to have the opportunity along with all our members to help grow this great club of ours and to project our positive image to the general public as we go about our daily lives and on Ulysses Club rides and social events.

We will very soon have a yearly subscription available to existing Ulysses Club members of $40.00 per annum, this new membership option will be starting on 1st April 2018 and is a direct result of requests from our members.

I hope over the coming months to explore ways to grow our membership back to the numbers that we used to enjoy a few years ago, and will be looking to our existing members to give me your thoughts on how we can all work towards this target. This can be accomplished by actively going out to motorcycle shops with information on our club, attending motorcycle events to spread the Ulysses Club message or just by talking to new members and making them so welcome that they instantly become part of the group.

Of course the big news for this edition is our Road Safety Forum at our AGM in May. We will be holding it once again at the main AGM site on Thursday 10th May starting at 9.30 am.

This year as well as having your entire state and territory representative attending, we will also have guest presenters from Maurice Blackburn lawyers and Matthew Baldock from Adelaide’s Centre for Automotive Safety Research, and Jim Beck our Queensland representative to give us the latest on crash investigation in his home state.

If you can’t make it to the Forum but would still like to raise a question to be asked  please send your question to me at my email address.
