National President’s Report Winter 2018

I write this report just prior to setting off on another journey to an AGM Event. My first journey to an AGM Event was in 2003, to Mudgee – I had a ball and that started my annual migration to wherever the event is held. Thankfully we move the AGM Event week around every year and that has offered me the opportunity to visit many places in our wonderful country. What a compelling reason to saddle up and move on out, away from work and to seek the company of fellow Ulysses Club members! I certainly try to live up to the catch-cry of “Enjoy the Journey” as many others of you do. My sincerest appreciation goes to the co-directors of the 2018 AGM Event in Barmera in South Australia’s Riverland area. Neville Gray, Life Member, and Graeme Rule led a team of coordinators and volunteers who have worked diligently to create and present another wonderful event. Blue Knowles in the role of National AGM Event Coordinator, has worked tirelessly and has dedicated an enormous amount of his time since the 2017 AGM Event, to guide and support the team for the current AGM Event. Mike Abberfield, Life Member, volunteered as the event Treasurer and spent many hours poring over the books. A minimum of three years go into making an event like this happen – hard work but a lot of fun and opportunity to learn along the way. Let’s make the last AGM Event a memorable time – I know it will be. I’m looking forward to catching up with those of you who I see every year at these events, and will make new friends – how good is that? The towns in the Riverland area will make us welcome and we’ll enjoy the new scenery and experiences. My fellow NatCom members and I will enjoy spending time with you there. If you haven’t been to one of these annual trips, make sure you don’t miss out on travelling to the 2019 National Rally at Mornington Peninsula, a beautiful part of Australia with some fantastic roads to travel. The 2019 National Rally will be held in February so you can start planning now! New members are probably wondering why we want to head to an event built around an AGM – I can only assure them that the National Rally as it now known is so much more than an AGM. Plan to come along and enjoy the experience – put in your leave application now for February and make plans to be there in Mornington. Soon you’ll see the website for the 2019 National Rally and in a few months we’ll start to let you know about the Rally via e-newsletters and updates – there’s a lot to look forward to. The 2019 National Rally team is making sure it’ll be an event to remember.

I’ll see you there.
