Vice President, Sponsorship & Motorcycle Liaison Report – Autumn 2018
With the arrival of Autumn, we will have an exciting period of Branch AGMs, to be followed by our National AGM Event and Moto EXPO in the Riverlands of SA. So it seems like an appropriate time to update you on the various matters within my portfolio of responsibilities.
Once again, there has been a very high standard of interest shown by the nominees for the Ulysses Club – Motorcycle Apprentice of the Year Award. Our National adjudicator – Graham Moore, has once more managed the difficult task of selecting our four zone winners, from whom our national winner will be selected. Elsewhere in this edition of RO, you will find details, profiles and pictures of the zone winners. We are again very grateful to Supercheap Auto for its generous sponsorship of the zone winners awards of $1000 Supercheap Auto Gift Cards A big thank you to Graham Moore #62763, for his tireless work with the MAOTY award. This is Graham’s last year as our National Adjudicator, with his role to filled by Jim Brooks #9467, effective 1st June this year.
The Ulysses Club preferred charity – UCARF (Ulysses Club Arthritis Research Fund) will again conduct ts biennial National Raffle (a valuable fundraiser) in 2019, with outstanding prizes for first, second and third in the draw. We have secured sponsorship from Suzuki for the major prize, a motorcycle from their range of latest models, which is sure to make some lucky winner very happy. UCARF is worthy of your support as every dollar raised goes directly into arthritis research. And to cap it off, the UCARF Raffle first prize will be fully sponsored by Suzuki.
This past year has been one of great success with sponsorships. Most of our established major sponsors have been renegotiated and recommitted to us, including – Suzuki, Supercheap Auto, Shannons Insurance, Drive Away Holidays, Autosol and Maurice Blackburn Lawyers. Negotiations with our largest Sponsor – QBE – are currently underway for a new arrangement, reflecting the new administration team within QBE. Loyal support from our members towards all our sponsors is appreciated as it is our support to them that guarantees they will remain sponsor partners into the future.
One of the key attractions at our AGM Event each year is the display, and test rides provided of, the latest model bikes available from our supporting motorcycle manufacturers. We are again very privileged to have most manufacturers committing to be with us and I’m sure many of you will avail yourselves of the chance of a test ride on the bike of your choice. My appreciation goes to the entire 2018 AGM Committee for their efforts in accommodating the motorcycle manufacturers and in fact all Trade exhibitors.
Of course, from 2019 we are going “Back to the Future” with a change of name to “National Rally and AGM”………… a change that has been welcomed by our members. In late March I will again be attending the National Rally of Ulysses Club New Zealand – to be held in Dunedin.
It is pleasing to see our membership numbers starting to stabilise after some years of decline. I encourage all members to keep an eye on your renewal date, and remain current…… even if your riding activities have diminished. We are still a very proud social club for those with an interest in motorcycling, and your continuing membership is encouraged, even if you have ceased riding.
Safe and happy riding…………. I look forward to seeing you in Riverlands in May.
Peter Baulch # 27672 – National Vice President.
