Vice President’s Report : Spring 2018

IT is always a challenge to entice manufacturers to take part in our major annual event; The Ulysses Club National Rally and AGM.

However, the Mornington Peninsula venue for 2019 is already appealing to the manufacturers, who are well aware of its close proximity to major markets and easy logistics for attendance.

We already have firm commitment from Suzuki and Can-Am, with expressions of interest from Honda, BMW, Kawasaki, Triumph and Polaris. We also have some excellent nearby roads for the test rides on the Mornington Peninsula.

As you are all aware, my lengthy negotiations with QBE concluded with a most satisfactory outcome, our largest ever partnership / sponsorship agreement.  We have published our first “Editorial” featuring Nicole Coleby and her boss Dean Cullen. QBE will be providing material and pics which will appear in future editions of Riding On. And / or InterComms, BranchComms. etc.  They left me in no doubt that they certainly value the partnership that QBE has with our Ulysses Club.  It is now up to us to ensure that our members make every effort to avail themselves of the insurance services provided by QBE.

Our sponsorship / partnership arrangements are in a very healthy position. All sponsorships are current, with Shannons having recently renewed for a further three years – including an effective 10% increase in value.

Suzuki will supply an exciting V-Strom 650 XT for the lucky winner of the UCARF biennial National Raffle.

Our new MAOTY National Adjudicator, Jim Brooks # 9467, has hit the ground running.
I have no doubt that whilst Jim has huge shoes to fill, he will be up for the challenge.   Nomination / Application forms for 2018 have been distributed to all TAFE Institutions nationally, and Jim is embracing the task of building constructive relationships with all TAFEs, staff and applicants’ Employers to assist in assessing all applications as they start to come in.

Riding On articles featuring test rides and reports, written by Club members, continue to be very popular. This Spring edition of Riding On features a very interesting “comparison” report on the two bikes ridden by the author to consecutive AGMs

Further down the road, our Summer edition will feature reports on the latest 2018 Goldwing and the latest in adventure bikes from Triumph.

A huge thank you to our volunteer test riders / reporters, for the excellent work they do for the benefit of our members.

Any special requests for particular motorcycles – new or old – to feature, please let me know.

Melbourne’s Troy Bayliss Moto Expo will be held 23 –25  November (2018) at the Melbourne Show Grounds, and again, Ulysses Club has been granted a complimentary (contra) shell space.  We will have an enthusiastic team to promote our Club, its aims, its activities and its benefits.  Members are encouraged to support the Club and this event with their attendance.

Peter Baulch  #27672

National Vice President.
