Christmas in July at Tenterfield
ON July 21, the Redlands Branch of S.E Qld held their annual Christmas in July at Tenterfield – yes, I know it is cold there, but what is the point of going somewhere hot for Christmas?
We all rugged up and spirits were high when we all got together.
We celebrated at the Tenterfield Bowling Club with 60 Ulysses members from Tamworth, Glen Innes, Gippsland (Victoria), Logan, Gatton, Warwick, Mt Lindsay and of course Redlands.
While waiting for the evening to start, everyone sat in the lounge area of the small club, soaking up the atmosphere of a very friendly country town. I think we almost overwhelmed the staff, but they rose to the occasion, offering us fantastic service and very friendly smiles, no one minded waiting.
The venue was the dining room itself and the locals still trying to enjoy a quiet evening meal were welcomed to join the occasion and apologies were made to them, regarding the fact that this rowdy bunch may get noisy! Again there were smiles all around.
Lucky chairs, door prizes, raffles and a trivia quiz kept everyone going in between courses and what a fantastic meal, cooked to perfection and with the usual country helping sizes!

Then Santa came for Secret Santa and almost all made a point of sitting on Santa or Mrs Claus’s knee. Lots of fun, laughs and easy chatter.
Keep an eye on the calendar for the venue and date of next year’s celebrations. Many thanks to the Tenterfield Bowling Club for going out of their way to make us feel welcome, all the Ulyssians attending, Steve B for doing a great job as MC and of course the ladies of Redlands for the organisation of the event.
